Intruder indecent assault on woman in Ballymena home

A woman has been indecently assaulted by an intruder in her home in Ballymena, police have said.

The woman, who was in bed at her home in Clarence Street, awoke to find an intruder in her room around 2100 GMT on Monday.

During a brief struggle, the man indecently assaulted the woman before running away.

Detectives investigating the incident said the man left from the rear of the house and have appealed for witnesses.

 
Intruder robs Newry pensioner's handbag

A 73-year-old woman has been robbed by an intruder who broke into her home in Newry, County Down.

She was sitting in the living room of her home in the Glen Hill Park area at about 1900 GMT on Tuesday when a man broke in through a front window.

He grabbed her handbag which was at her feet before making off.

Police have appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about the robbery to contact them.

Robberies at knife point have risen by almost a fifth, according to official figures for England and Wales.


Domestic burglaries jumped 4% - the first significant rise for some years.

The Home Office figures for the three months to September 2008 indicate that total recorded crime continues to fall - down 3% over the quarter.
